Pattaya Beach is usually one of the last things that men are thinking about when on a trip of debauchery and drunkenness. But for those of you that enjoy basking in the sun, the beach is a stone’s throw away from most of the hotels in Pattaya. Just don’t expect the local girls to want to go and hang out at the beach. Thais have a tendency to avoid the sun like the plague!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going down and hanging out on Pattaya beach. People from all over the world love to enjoy the sun and the sea, especially if you are from a country with a cold and dreary climate. That is also one of the reasons why Pattaya is very popular with the tourists. Some people rag on the beach and say how bad it is and so forth. Yes, there are better beaches around the world, and in Thailand, but Pattaya beach is not as bad as what everyone says.
If you plan on spending time with a local Thai girl you have picked up, she may not be too excited about joining you on the beach. Thai culture has a thing about light skin, they aspire to have it. So if your girl is already a bit on the dark side, which most girls in Pattaya are, don’t expect her to be jumping for joy and wanting to go spend time in the sun on the sand. They would much rather stay inside and sleep, or go shopping. Those are two of the favorite pastimes for girls in Thailand! Therefore expect to go on your own, but once in awhile you may get lucky and find a girl who doesn’t fit the mold.
At high tide, Pattaya beach is rather narrow. There really isn’t much room from the chairs to the water. So if you like to tan on the beach and not be under an umbrella, or throw Frisbee or anything that takes some space, there isn’t that much room. One of the reasons why the beach is so narrow is that it has been eroding over the years. It seems to have accelerated in recent years due to overdevelopment. Some predict that Pattaya beach can be completely washed away in a matter of years unless something is done to prevent it.
When low tide occurs the beach is wider, but it’s not a nice even flowing beach into the water. However it does open up some space if you want to take a walk or jog on the beach. There is a lot riding on preserving Pattaya beach, many people depend on it for their livelihoods, therefore let’s all hope that the city can come up with a solution to protect and preserve Pattaya beach.
As of today, Pattaya beach is still there for you to enjoy. It’s not gone yet! The water is always warm, although it may not be the cleanest. But that can be said about most oceans around developed areas all over the world. You will have to deal with the vendors (just like anywhere else in Thailand) that are constantly trying to sell you something, although they are very convenient when you are hungry or thirsty. Pattaya beach still is an attraction for many foreigners, so why not take advantage of it and enjoy it.
