For some reason when people visit a city like Pattaya, they feel that they can just act like a total fool. Just because the city revolves around some of the seedier things that humans like to participate in does not give anyone the right to be downright disrespectful towards others. This is a city that has people from all walks of life, so when you are out enjoying yourself, make sure you are respectful to everyone. By doing this, hopefully you will avoid any unwanted trouble.
Pattaya definitely has its share of crime. There are always shady things going down in the Sin City of the East. Bad things can happen to you even if you aren’t acting like a jerk-off. Let’s take a look at some of the things that can happen to you if you are minding your own business and what may happen to you if you are just out of line.
Getting “rolled” can happen. If you decide to take a freelancer back to your room, always have your valuables locked away and leave her nothing to take. You may very well be drunk when you come back to the room so think ahead. Carrying large amounts of cash is also not a bright move. Freelancers are nearly impossible to track down so if something happens, you’ll be shit out of luck.
Another thing you should be aware of is the Baht itself. Some of the bills can be confusing and when you’re out in a bar, it’s dark and you’re reaching to pay the tab, make sure you have the correct notes. The 500 Baht note and the 100 Baht note can get easily mixed up. The bills are all a bit different in size. The largest bills are the 1000 Baht notes, and then they get progressively smaller as they go down in value to the 500, 100, 50 and 20. The best thing to do is just arrange them in order when you are out and always double check what you are paying your tab with.
Showing disrespect towards Thai can get you in trouble. Thais are pretty laid back, but when you’re out in the bars and you are showing the girls disrespect there may be consequences. There are bouncers around and if you really piss someone off, you may get four or five guys kicking the shit out of you. They like to fight in numbers so be aware of that fact. It is not something that happens all the time, but it does from time to time.
Another thing that has happened in different parts of Thailand (from Patong to Pattaya) is a bargirl slipping something into your drink. This may happen once you’ve made a move and decided to pull the trigger and take her home. She’ll then slip something in your drink so when you get home, you’ll be out like a light and then she more than likely will rob you. You may have given her some information that you should have just kept to yourself and therefore opened yourself for this kind of activity to take place. Be careful what you tell the bargirls, you never know where it will lead.
Don’t disrespect other foreigners as well. When people drink, you never know how they are going to act. Some are happy drunks and just are looking to have a good time. Others can become violent so there is no need to provoke any kind of altercation.
Snatch and grabs are other things you have to be aware of. If you are carrying any kind of bag with valuable in it, that may be a target for thieves. Like I said before, there is no need to carry larger amounts of cash or even anything of real value around. Most hotels have safes so keep your stuff locked up there.
Enjoying yourself to the fullest is the primary goal when you holiday in Pattaya. Just remember to use your head and try not to put yourself in any unwanted situations. These are some points I hope you take into consideration.
