On Monday evening, May 7, 2012, there was a lockdown on Pattaya Soi 6. Government officers were out in full force making sure all the establishment’s licenses were valid and all of the sex workers were completely drug-free.

Officers blocked both ends of the Soi and did a sweep of the entire entertainment complex. They were making sure that no minors were illegally working in any of the bars and all licenses were valid. Everything came up clean for the bars. However over 100 girls and ladyboys were urine tested and a whopping 60 of them came back with positive test results. The 50 women and 10 ladyboys that tested positive were subsequently arrested and transferred to the Pattaya Police Station where they were then charged with illegal drug consumption offenses. Most of the workers claimed they were on prescription medications. All workers were then allowed to return to work and no further action was taken against any bar on Soi 6. Regular checks to this area may be on the horizon said local authorities.
